
Playwriting for Kids (Ages 6–12)
This playful, high-energy playwriting and theater class helps kids build characters, shape their own stories, and create their very own short play or monologue. Kids will explore imagination through writing prompts, improv/ games, acting exercises, art, movement, and brainstorming.
Kids will learn:
- How to create characters with personality
- How stories begin, grow, and end
- How dialogue works
- How to turn ideas into scripts
- How to express themselves with confidence
- How to structure, write, and perform a play
Teen Playwriting Workshops (Ages 12–17)
Teens dive into deeper storytelling—identity, conflict, emotion, humor, arcs, and meaningful themes.
Perfect for kids who want to explore their writing through guidance and structure.
Teens will explore:
- Character motivation
- Scene structure & pacing
- Longer-format plays
- Revision and polishing
- Building a finished short play or monologue
Adult Playwriting Workshops
No experience needed—just curiosity and a willingness to explore. Adults get space to unwind, write freely, and experiment with storytelling while learning the building blocks of playwriting. Perfect for beginners, theater lovers, or anyone craving a creative outlet.

KIDS PLAYWRITING CLASSES

MONDAYS: LET’S MAKE A PLAY AT RANDOM FARMS
Write a play this fall! Kids will learn how to develop their own 10-minute play through this fun and immersive playwriting class. Starting from idea to the development of a short play, the class includes a discussion about the structural components of developing plays as well as character development, establishing tone, setting, and creating structure. The class also includes reading of plays, acting, improv, art, readings, costume design, and group sharing. The last class ends with a staged reading of the students’ 10-minute play. For all creatives; no experience is necessary.

From crafting costumes and stage props to writing original scenes and learning the basics of stage combat and special effects makeup, this class is perfect for curious kids who love to build, imagine, design, and create. Whether you’re a future playwright, designer, or special effects wizard, Stage Crafting is your backstage pass to the many ways you can help bring a story to life on stage. Each student will receive their own stage makeup kit and crafting journal.

TUESDAYS: How to Write Your Monologue to Tell Your Personal Story, IN-PERSON

Monologue writing is an incredible tool to tell your story. In this six-week class, participants will learn how to develop character, establish setting, set tone, develop backstory, and create the world of their monologues. The class includes readings, prompts, shared text, group work, and a staged reading. This adult workshop is for writers of all abilities – no experience is necessary. A workbook will be provided. (Course fee + 30 for Let’s Make a Play workbook, payable in cash to instructor).

THURSDAYS: Acting: Introduction to Acting for Non-Actors
Have you ever wanted to act? Join Serena Norr, playwright, director, and founder of Let’s Make a Play for a fun and immersive acting experience where you will learn how to become a range of characters. This includes acting games, scene study, character choices, some improv, and learning how to take direction and modify choices.

THURSDAYS: Acting: Advanced Acting and Performance
Join us for an advanced acting workshop where participants learn how to develop their acting skills into an off-book production. This includes working with scenes and a short play as well as acting games, scene study, character choices, some improv, and learning how to take direction and modify choices. The last class ends in an off-book production.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Acting for Non-Actors or equivalent.
